On a regular Tuesday, an ammonia leak put everyone into action.
The area operator, in full protective gear, was on the spot. The fire tender rushed in, followed by the heavy water plant fire tender. Water was sprayed, pipelines were inspected, a victim was rushed by ambulance and traffic was controlled. Then came the debrief.
This was the drill our employees at SPIC conducted on World Day for Safety & Health at Work. One of many activities held across our group companies, particularly within our Fertilisers and Petrochemicals businesses.
Ready for Anything
Every year, World Day for Safety & Health at Work serves as an important reminder for every organisation: one of vigilance and accountability.
At AM International, the day saw a coming together of teams as they participated in a range of activities and demonstrations. These focused on workplace safety and included mock drills and hands-on training sessions. Alongside this, structured awareness programmes further reinforced a culture of preparedness and continuous learning.

At Tuticorin Fertilizers Limited, the occasion was marked with a Fire Safety Training Program. It was organised in association with the Fire & Rescue Services Department, Tamil Nadu, and as part of National Fire Service Week 2026. The session, led by Station Officer T. Murugaiah and his team, brought together around 70 employees and contract workers. It featured expert-led discussions, live demonstrations, and interactive exercises. Participants got the chance to explore emergency responses across industrial, household, educational, and healthcare settings.
Teams at SPIC conducted an on-site emergency drill at the Ammonia Plant. They simulated a leak in the sphere’s bottom auxiliary line, creating a high-stakes scenario that demanded precision and coordinated response. The drill was conducted in the presence of R. Siddharthan, Additional Director, Industrial Safety & Health (ADISH), Madurai, with Senthil Nayagam Palaniyappan, Technical Director, leading as emergency coordinator.
The successful drill reflected the discipline that has helped SPIC achieve 1,164 consecutive days without a lost-time accident, amounting to 4.05 million man-hours of safe operations in FY25.

In Safe Hands
As a manufacturing-led group, we consider HSSE — Health, Safety, Security & Environment — to be a non-negotiable priority across everything we do. This means prioritising the well-being of our people, the safe and reliable operation of our plants, and our responsibility to the environment.
This commitment is reflected consistently across our companies. TPL, SPIC, and MPL each operate within ISO 45001-certified safety frameworks: the international benchmark for occupational health and safety management. These frameworks are supported by structured policies, regular audits, and continuous training programmes that keep standards high and teams prepared.

At AM International, upholding safety standards goes beyond the workplace. In line with this, TFL organised an Eye Camp for salt pan workers, their families, and nearby communities. People whose daily exposure to harsh conditions makes access to essential healthcare meaningful and necessary. A total of 164 beneficiaries received eye examinations, and 50 spectacles were distributed to those in need.

Louder Than Words
At AM International, we don’t believe in symbolic gestures.
We see days like World Day for Safety & Health at Work as opportunities to strengthen our resolve to build workplaces where safety is practised every day. We continue to reaffirm our commitment to safe, sustainable, and responsible manufacturing across every company in our group.
