Recently, the teams of Southern Petrochemicals Industries Corporation (SPIC), Greenstar Fertilizers and Tuticorin Alkali Chemcials & Fertilizers (TFL) came together to celebrate Corporation Day 2026 at Tuticorin. Mr Ashwin Muthiah, Founder & Chairman, AM International, was a part of the celebration. He was joined by Ms. Valli Ashwin Muthiah, Director, AM Foundation, and Mr. Manish Nagpal, CEO – Fertilisers Group, AM International.
What made Corporation Day 2026 special was that the entire team at Tuticorin came together to celebrate four milestones: a new product line, an industry-first innovation, and an entry into one of the world’s largest export markets.

Greenstar Fertilizers Launches Its LABSA Product Line

Greenstar Fertilizers Limited (GFL), a co-existent entity of SPIC and a group company of AM International, commenced production of Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid, commonly known as LABSA. Mr. Muthiah flagged off the dispatch of the first commercial batch as part of the Corporation Day celebrations.
GFL’s new LABSA plant has an annual production capacity of 50,000 MTPA. The plant was designed, engineered, constructed, and commissioned entirely through in-house expertise. The plant sources its primary input — Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) — from Tamilnadu Petroproducts Limited (TPL), a fellow group company.
The spent acid generated during LABSA production is then channelled back into SPIC’s fertiliser operations to manufacture Single Super Phosphate. In this way, one group company’s output feeds another’s process, and what would otherwise be waste becomes a productive input.
With LABSA now part of its portfolio, GFL has expanded beyond its established product range of gypsum, silica, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, and ammonia into a new end-use sector: detergents and home care.
TFL Develops Granulated Ammonium Chloride — An Industry First

Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (TFL) already holds the distinction of being India’s only manufacturer of Ammonium Chloride (ACL). Conventionally, ACL has been available in crystalline form. TFL has now changed that.
The company has developed Granulated ACL. It is an industry-first innovation that transforms ACL from irregular crystals into uniform, free-flowing granules. To take this from concept to production, TFL commissioned a pilot granulation plant at its Tuticorin facility. The granulated form of ACL is a better product for farmers and distributors alike as it spreads more evenly in the field, releases nutrients gradually rather than all at once, resists caking during storage, and is easier to transport and blend with other fertilisers.
Mr. Muthiah inaugurated the pilot granulation plant and launched TFL’s branded packaging for Granulated ACL. He handed over the first bag of the new product to Mr. Nagpal, and the first commercial truck was dispatched from the facility the same day.
TFL Enters the US Market with Its First ACL Shipment
On the same day, TFL also dispatched its first export consignment of Ammonium Chloride to the United States from its Tuticorin manufacturing facility. Mr. Muthiah and Mr. Nagpal ceremonially flagged off the shipment, which marked TFL’s entry into one of the world’s largest chemical markets. TFL has already established its presence in the Middle East, and is now actively expanding into the United States, Europe, and Japan for both Ammonium Chloride and Light Soda Ash.

Commissioning of the New Electrical Substation at SPIC’s Urea Plant

Mr. Muthiah also inaugurated the new Electrical Substation at SPIC’s Urea Plant.
Designed to meet the increased electrical demand arising from the Urea Plant’s expanded capacity, this critical infrastructure marks another important milestone in its modernisation journey. The new substation will support increasing the plant’s capacity from 2,080 MTPD to 2,500 MTPD through CASALE’s Ammonia Stripping Process, while significantly reducing specific energy consumption.
It will power high-efficiency electric motors that replace conventional steam turbine drives, including the 5.3 MW CO₂ Compressor Motor and the 2.7 MW CO₂ Booster Compressor Motor. It also incorporates advanced Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for critical equipment and a new MCC-3 panel, enhancing operational reliability, flexibility, and plant availability.
The commissioning of this substation represents a significant step towards a more energy-efficient, reliable, and sustainable fertiliser manufacturing facility. It demonstrates the commitment and collaborative efforts of our project, operations, electrical, instrumentation, maintenance, and contractor teams.
What These Milestones Mean for AM International
Our mission at AM International is to build robust, market-leading businesses that draw on collaborative team capabilities, focused execution, and a distinctive regional and global focus to generate long-term value for our stakeholders. The four milestones that marked Corporation Day 2026 are giant leaps for each organization in their growth journeys. Connecting all four was the collaborative strength of our group companies — working together, sharing inputs, and building on each other’s expertise.
