Summer temperatures are at record highs all around us. The blazing heat may tempt you to gulp something fizzy or smoothies and shakes rich in calories. Well, there’s a much better and effective option right in front of you: WATER.

Here, we list the 5 reasons why water can be your go-to coolant this summer. You can take the lead and encourage your loved ones to stay hydrated with water by applying some simple and easy practices.

1. Hydrates Effectively

You tend to sweat more in summer. That is the body’s natural cooling mechanism. It also means that you lose some essential fluids while sweating. Drinking enough water can help to cool the body naturally and replenish lost fluids. It also prevents dehydration and heatstroke.

So, wherever you go, keep a refillable bottle and stay hydrated with this natural resource available in plenty. Here, mountain dwellers have a unique advantage – they have access to fresh, unprocessed river water straight from the source.

2. Regulates Body Temperature

Your body temperature can rise quickly during summer, whether you are outdoors, engaging in exercise or physical activity, or rolling out delicious meals at home for kids on vacation.

Water helps to reduce the internal body temperature and bring it down to a normal level. This is also called “thermoregulation.” Water aids the ability of the body to maintain normal temperature even when the surrounding temperature is high or low.

Fizzy drinks and shakes can also reduce your body temperature, however, water can do this without impacting your body adversely. What will you choose?

3. Supports Digestion

People often complain of gut problems during summer. This may be partially due to overeating and partially due to inadequate water intake.

There is a simple solution to ease your gut problems. Have a glass of water before meals – it helps in digestion and regulates your appetite. It stimulates digestive juices in your body and makes you feel full. In a way, it naturally keeps you from overeating and snacking.

So, when you go out next for a buddy lunch or a client meeting, ask for a simple glass of water before ordering and feel the difference.

4. Flushes Out Toxins

Our body collects toxins, which must be released. Water acts as the most natural way to flush out these toxins.

Drink lukewarm water in the morning before breakfast. Over a while, you will feel the difference as toxins are removed from your body and you feel more energetic, with better gut health and glowing skin.

5. Energises Naturally

Yes, that’s correct. Water acts as a natural energiser for your body. It helps to transport nutrients to your cells and maintain steady energy levels. When you feel energised, your productivity improves.

So, what do you prefer – a glass of water or energy drinks available off the shelf?

If you believe that variety is the spice of life, add natural flavours to water – maybe mint leaves, or a combination of apple and cinnamon – all available in your home.

Stay Cool, Stay Hydrated

Water is cool (pun intended) and empowering. In summer, your body needs extra care, and water provides that care and nourishment. Make it a summer goal: drink adequate water and encourage those around you to do the same. Carry a reusable bottle and sip throughout the day. Together, let’s beat the heat with humble “water”.

Across the world, 1st May is celebrated as International Labour Day. It recognises the efforts of people who work on the floor of factories or are engaged in field work. At AM International, our group companies marked the occasion by acknowledging the contributions of the teams at the core of their manufacturing processes and reiterating the group’s commitment to fairness, well-being and safety of its people.

Fairness in Conduct

AM International believes that employee well-being is much more than what is mandated by the regulations. We strive to provide equal opportunities and an environment where all employees are respected, valued and empowered to grow. Our compensation structures are designed to be fair, transparent, and performance-driven.

We believe that fairness is not a one-time policy; it is an ongoing commitment.

Upskilling: The Need of the Hour

At our companies, we recognise the importance of upskilling our people to stay abreast and relevant in the changing times.

We provide structured learning to floor staff, thus paving the way for their growth within the organisations. We also conduct digital literacy programmes and advanced equipment training regularly.

Recently, Tamilnadu Petrochemicals Limited (TPL) hosted a team of engineers at its plant to understand industrial instrumentation. The session provided an overview of the plant’s safety systems and processes and then proceeded to a more technical discussion. The visiting team of engineers was impressed with the comprehensive learning experience and practical insights gained during the visit.

No Compromise on Health and Safety

Since the past five decades, AM International has embedded a culture of maintaining the highest health and safety standards for its employees and floor staff.

Regular inspection of safety equipment, educating the floor staff about emergency evacuation and first-aid measures are some of the exercises conducted regularly.

Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (TFL) recently conducted a safety awareness session to strengthen the preparedness of its fire and safety response team. The training was also extended to students from a technical college in Tuticorin.

The training covered the key aspects of fire and industrial safety—empowering participants to recognise hazards, prevent accidents, and respond effectively in emergencies.

Social Welfare for a Better Society

As part of our social welfare initiatives, we strive to promote the emotional and social well-being of our employees, their families, and the community as a whole.

Towards this goal, SPIC organised a rural sports event drawing participation from over 2,500 individuals. The event emphasised the power of sports to bring bring people together and strengthen community ties.

Manali Petrochemicals Limited (MPL) organises a monthly event – “SHFT” (Session on Health and Fitness) for raising awareness about health and well-being among the employees. A recent session on “Beat the Heat” emphasised the importance of hydration, being mindful of internal and external environmental conditions, and engaging in physical activity consistently. Likewise, TPL hosted “Health 2.0: Risks Due to Obesity” to engage employees in conversations on obesity – the causes, the health challenges, and simple strategies for prevention.

A Culture of Care, Driven by Values

Labour Day 2025 at AM International

As we reflect on our growth over the years, we are reminded of the efforts of our teams on the floor and in the field who have made this possible. We thank them for their contributions to the growth and success of our group.

AM International remains committed to our goals of growth, fairness, health, safety and well-being of our employees.

“A fit body and mind complement a healthy life.”

– Ashwin Muthiah
 Founder & Chairman, AM International

At AM International, we believe that good health is the true foundation of the success. And hence, across all our organisations, employee wellness is more than a checklist of health activities, – rather it is a way of life— we recognize that employee well-being is more than just physical health. It also comprises their overall mental, emotional and economic health.

A recent example is the Health is Wealth competition hosted by Tamilnadu Petroproducts.

The fun-filled annual event, running its 2nd edition currently, is among the most awaited cultural activities organised at the company. As a part of the event, the company puts together a series of insightful initiatives to educate, encourage and empower their team mates to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

1. Wellness Education

Healthier Lifestyle

As a part of the programme, TPL recently hosted two-part wellness series – which focused on gut health and sustainable health management.

  • Session 1: Simple Yoga, Big Benefits:
The first session, led by Mr. Ranganathan, Sr. Corporate Yoga Consultant, explored the power of yoga for weight loss and its role in achieving balance between body and mind. His session covered key wellness topics with a special emphasis on relieving common ailments among office goers.
  • Session 2: Good Gut, Great Health:
The second session, conducted by Dr. Sabarisan R, highlighted the connection between gut health and weight loss. The focus on gut health and diet underscored simple but effective changes—such as adding whole grains, fibre-rich foods, and balanced carbohydrates—to enhance overall health.

2. Encourage a Lifestyle Aimed at Wellness

Healthier Lifestyle

Wellness at AM International goes beyond initiatives—it’s a shared mindset that informs how we lead, work, and support one another. From inclusive policies to thoughtfully designed wellness programmes, we create opportunities for employees to prioritise their health without compromising on their professional goals.

We’ve seen that initiatives like Health is Wealth have a lasting impact beyond the event itself. They shift mindsets, inspire consistency, and promote everyday habits that lead to greater resilience, reduced stress, and higher energy—both at work and at home.

3. Empowering a Culture of Wellness

Healthier Lifestyle

By promoting healthy habits and mindful choices, we empower our employees to take charge of their well-being—fostering stronger teams and a more connected, purpose-driven workplace.

When employees feel well, they perform at their best—and the positive ripple effects are felt across the organisation. In championing employee wellness, TPL, in effect, is strengthening its own ability to stay competitive in an ever-evolving world.

The continued success of Health is Wealth series over the years demonstrates that even small, consistent lifestyle changes can make a huge difference. By promoting holistic wellness initiatives, AM International continues to foster a culture of health and well-being.

For over five decades, Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) has stood as a dependable pillar in India’s fertiliser industry.

From the early days of the Green Revolution to providing the sector with a firm foundation for ‘Viksit Bharat’, we have evolved to address the changing needs of the agricultural industry. We have remained nimble and adapted to change, from continuously modernising our manufacturing facilities to various innovations like producing green (neem-coated) fertilisers.

Besides supporting Indian farmers with quality agri-nutrients and sustainable farming solutions, SPIC is also known for contributing to the development of the sector by bringing cutting-edge knowledge and innovation directly to the fields. Further, SPIC’s active involvement in contemporary industry forums is a reflection of its steady engagement in shaping a more productive and sustainable fertiliser landscape.

SPIC at FAI’s MDP 2025

One example is the company’s participation in the Management Development Programme organised by the Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) – Southern Region, under the theme “Need for Paradigm Shift in Fertiliser Policies.” The event gathered senior professionals across the sector to explore challenges, policy reforms, and the future roadmap of India’s fertiliser industry.

Transforming India

SPIC, along with Greenstar Fertilizers—another key agri-input brand under AM International—were represented at the event with ten participants from their technical and marketing teams. Held in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the platform enabled rich discussions and cross-functional learning among industry peers.

A standout moment was the technical presentation on “Improving the Efficiencies of Fertilizer Production.” The insights struck a chord with the audience, emphasising the growing importance of resource optimisation and regulatory clarity. The session highlighted practical ways to enhance production efficiency. It underlined the need for a more collaborative and forward-looking policy ecosystem.

SPIC’s key message during the session was on how the fertiliser sector, perhaps more than any other, relies on collective advancement—whether through shared technological progress, or cohesive advocacy for regulatory reforms. It reinforced the notion that collaboration is beneficial and essential to meet the growing demands of Indian agriculture.

A Committed Partner in the Evolution of India’s Fertilizer Sector

Recognition by reputed platforms such as FAI is encouraging and grounding, even as India’s fertiliser sector witnesses a considerable transformation. It reflects SPIC’s continued relevance and adaptability, built on years of consistent service and commitment to the Indian farmer. Such opportunities allow its teams to contribute to and learn from broader industry dialogues. As the sector looks ahead to more integrated, technology-driven solutions, SPIC remains focused on enabling farmer prosperity and strengthening India’s food security. And in doing so, it quietly reaffirms its place as a committed partner in the country’s agricultural progress.

“A fit body and mind complement a healthy life.”

– Ashwin Muthiah, Chairman, AM International Holdings

At AM International, we place immense importance on the holistic well-being of our employees. We firmly believe that a motivated and healthy workforce enhances employee engagement and performance, boosting the productivity of our group enterprises.

One example is the ‘Health is Wealth’ initiative undertaken by Tamilnadu Petroproducts Limited (TPL), a company under the petrochemical segment of AM International.

Since its establishment over three decades ago, TPL has devised and implemented various programs to ensure their employees’ holistic well-being. But the company’s Health is Wealth initiative, launched in 2022, is its most successful undertaking so far.

The friendly internal contest encourages employees to adopt a healthier lifestyle through weight management. Conducted over three months, the exciting contest aims to inspire employees to embrace healthier habits.

Following the success of its first edition, TPL recently launched the second edition. The response from the company’s employees was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. In fact, what began as a weight-loss competition has evolved into a wellness competition to promote a healthy lifestyle among employees by organising sustainable fitness sessions.

Their wellness progress is tracked over three months, and the top three achievers in each category will be awarded. Additionally, participants across various activities will receive surprise gifts throughout the duration of the competition.

The Inspiration that Drives the Initiative

This program was conceived when the HR team observed that increasing mechanisation and digitalisation at TPL’s plants had led to employees spending extended hours at their desks, raising concerns about obesity and sedentary lifestyles.

To support employees in their journey towards embracing a healthier lifestyle and to retain high motivation levels, TPL will also organise fitness challenges, nutritional advisory workshops, and daily wellness tips.

Impact of Health is Wealth 2.0

A remarkably positive change has occurred at TFL since the launch of Health is Wealth 2.0.

The company’s employees are experiencing significant benefits:

Increased Energy:

Employees are experiencing a significant boost in their energy levels, which in turn enhances workplace productivity.

Wellness at Work

Confidence Boost:

The competition fosters an environment to enable participants to achieve their wellness goals. Such achievements improve their morale and foster a proactive mindset in both their personal and professional lives.

By cultivating a culture of wellness, TPL, and by extension, AM International, is empowering our team members employees to thrive—not just at work, but in all aspects of their lives.

Inauguration of R-LNG pipeline to replace Furnace Oil as a fuel in MPL Plant-2 by Hugo Chardon, Head of Strategy, AMIH Group and Director, Manali Petrochemicals Limited

At AM International, sustainability is a core value that has guided our operations for over five decades. One of the ways we achieve this goal is by modernising the infrastructure of our manufacturing plants.

This approach includes a shift towards renewable energy sources, the adoption of cleaner fuels, and advancing energy efficiency. By integrating these practices, we aim to reduce emissions and enhance the overall environmental performance of our operations.

In alignment with this vision, Manali Petrochemicals Limited (MPL), the flagship company of the petrochemicals segment at AM International, recently inaugurated the Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (R-LNG) pipeline connectivity to replace the use of furnace oil at its Plant-2.

Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

About the Project:

MPL collaborated with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for this initiative. The pilot firing inauguration was conducted by Mr. Hugo C., Head of Strategy, AM Inernational and Director, MPL.

Senior leaders, including Mr. R Chandrasekar, MD & CEO, MPL Group, Mr. G R Sridhar, Whole-time Director (Head of Plant Operations), MPL, and Mr. Shivram Narayanan, Chief Operating Officer, MPL, were present on the occasion.

Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

Following the inauguration, officials of MPL and IOCL initiated the main line supply to the burners. The transition from furnace oil to R-LNG signifies a significant milestone in fulfilling the sustainability goals at AM International.

On the one hand, it demonstrates our commitment to deploy environmentally-friendly energy sources in our operations. On the other hand, it demonstrates our commitment to future-readiness by ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory standards ahead of schedule.

Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

Reinforcing the Sustainability Focus at AM International:

Here’s how the transition to R-LNG has a positive impact on our planet as well as MPL’s operations and the safety of the manufacturing unit:

Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

Environmental Advantages:

  • Cleaner fuel emits lower levels of Carbon dioxide (CO2), Sulphur dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter.
  • Advanced Newgen technology with a Low NOx burner further minimises NOx emissions.
Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

Operational Benefits:

  • Cleaner fuel enhances efficiency, thereby optimizing the system’s performance.
  • Produces fewer residues than furnace oil, thus reducing wear and tear on equipment and lowering maintenance costs.
Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

Enhanced Safety:

  • Safer to handle than furnace oil, as it is less prone to spills and hazardous emissions, improving workplace safety.
  • More efficient compliance with regulatory standards.

Championing Sustainability, Enabling Change

MPL’s transition to R-LNG technology is a prime example of how companies at AM International are adopting sustainable practices that protect and restore natural ecosystems.

Our aim is to create a more sustainable future by strategically combining efficient resource utilisation with ecological responsibility.

About the Lunar New Year

A Glimpse of the Lunar New Year Celebrations at Wilson International

Many Asian countries mark the arrival of the new year around this time. Among them, Lunar New Year—also known as the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year—is the most significant celebration in China and several other Asian communities.

This 15-day festival begins with the new moon and concludes with the following full moon. Traditionally, it was a time for feasting and paying homage to household and celestial deities, as well as honoring ancestors.

In the lead-up to Lunar New Year, homes are meticulously cleaned to sweep away any lingering bad luck from the past year. It is also customary to settle outstanding debts before the new year, symbolizing a fresh financial start. Other preparations include adorning doors and windows with Spring Festival couplets and purchasing new clothes to welcome the year ahead.

At Wilson International, we believe that a team that eats together grows together.

Here’s to a year filled with new opportunities, growth, and success for all!

Earlier this month, His Excellency Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, made his first state visit to India. His spouse, Mrs. Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam, accompanied him and other senior ministry members.

Singapore is considered India’s gateway to the East.

It is also one of the country’s most significant foreign direct investment (FDI) sources. From April 2000 to March 2024, Singapore’s cumulative FDI contribution to India amounted to approximately USD 159.94 billion. In FY24, Singapore accounted for 3.2% of India’s overall trade. On the other hand, India is Singapore’s 12th largest trade partner, with a 2.3% share in the country’s overall trade volume.

A New Chapter in India-Singapore Bilateral Relations

President Tharman highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relations between India and Singapore during his visit.

“We will never forget that India was among the first few countries to recognize Singapore’s independence in 1965. And since then, our relationship has grown by bounds,” he said.

Welcoming the Singapore President and his delegation to India, Honourable President of India, Mrs. Droupadi Murmu, emphasized that with a shared history, a long tradition of friendship based on trust and mutual respect, and extensive cooperation across a wide range of areas, India-Singapore cooperation has gained further momentum in recent years.

2025 marks a significant milestone in the history of India-Singapore relations, as it commemorates the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties that began in 1965. President Murmu and President Tharman launched a logo to celebrate this momentous occasion, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The Evolution of Singapore-India Bilateral Relations

The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), which came into effect in 2005, serves as a cornerstone for economic engagement between the two nations.  Over the last 20 years, the agreement has significantly boosted bilateral trade between the two countries.

When the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, visited Singapore in September 2024, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). The goal of the CSP is to provide a broader framework for diplomatic relations and economic activities between the two countries.

This move reflects the growing alignment of the two countries’ fiscal, technological, and geopolitical interests. It also underscores Singapore’s confidence in India’s rising economic and technological stature, promising mutual benefits and a bright future for both nations.

Following the execution of the CECA, Singapore is exploring new opportunities in India in sectors such as logistics, connectivity, petrochemicals, aerospace MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations), urban mobility, and renewable energy. These sectors hold immense potential for growth and development, sparking an exciting future filled with opportunities for India-Singapore relations.

We are confident that both India and Singapore will benefit from these deepening ties. With its focus on sustainability and advanced technology, the collaboration offers considerable growth opportunities, giving Indian companies access to state-of-the-art practices, new markets, and a sustainable growth trajectory in the years to come.

As President Tharman aptly put it, “We are natural partners. Singapore is invested in India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047.”

As December rolls around, it’s time to take stock of another year in the books. Many of us find ourselves back at the drawing board – sketching out our New Year resolution game plan. Whether it’s giving junk food the pink slip, jumpstarting your fitness routine or shedding those extra pounds, we’re all looking to maximise our personal potential. Yet, a few weeks down our well-intentioned goals often get filed away in the bottom drawer.

How can you change this? We can turn this around with some tried-and-tested business principles. Here are a few tips to make your New Year resolutions deliver results.

Start with a Solid Business Case

The most successful resolutions begin with a realistic scope. Think of it as your personal project charter – you want ambitious yet achievable goals. Don’t overwhelm yourself with commitments like “ I’ll exercise every day.” Keep a manageable target – “ I’ll exercise twice a week. ” Remember, sustainable growth comes from solid foundations.

Getting down to business

Create Your Project Milestones

Every successful initiative needs a clear roadmap. Break down your goals into manageable deliverables. If weight loss is your objective, segment it into monthly targets. This approach helps you maintain momentum and keeps your motivation high through regular wins.

Navigate the Challenges

Let’s face it – sometimes we hit roadblocks. If you fall behind one month, don’t let it derail your entire program. Think of setbacks as temporary detours. They’re not dead ends. The key is to keep your eyes on the prize and adjust your strategy as needed.

This is where the 3D framework-Discipline, Determination, and Dedication-comes into play.

Be Dedicated

Getting down to business

What is it?

Dedication keeps you committed to your long-term goals, transforming short-term efforts into sustainable change.

Why does it matter?

Break resolutions into measurable components, such as completing specific tasks by designated dates or tracking milestones. Further, tracking progress is essential to staying on course. For instance, if work-life balance is your focus, measure progress by noting how often you take timely lunch breaks, leave work on time, or avoid work distractions on weekends.

By quantifying goals, you’ll have a clear picture of your improvement, keeping you motivated throughout the year.

Be Determined

Getting down to business

What is it?

Determination gives you the resilience to overcome setbacks and keep moving forward.

Why does it matter?

Setbacks are an inevitable aspect of life’s journey. Don’t be discouraged if you fall short of a goal, such as missing a deadline or struggling to maintain work-life boundaries. Instead, take a step back, refocus, and get back on track in the coming weeks. If you’ve missed a break or haven’t set strong boundaries, try adjusting your approach and managing your time more effectively.

Progress is more about moving in the right direction than moving quickly.

Be Disciplined

Getting down to business

What is it?

Discipline ensures consistency and structure, helping you stick to your routine even when motivation wanes.

Why does it matter?

Writing down your goals and regularly reviewing your progress ensures that your resolutions remain a priority. This keeps you focused and motivated while also giving you an opportunity to reflect on your achievements and areas that need more attention.

Consistency and discipline are essential to long-term success.

Finally, Track Your Metrics

Don’t keep your goals in the cloud – bring them down to earth with concrete measurements:

  • Document your progress like you would track project milestones
  • Review your personal metrics regularly
  • Use the data to fine-tune your approach
  • Celebrate when you hit your targets

Moving Forward

Making New Year’s resolutions isn’t just another item on your Q4 agenda. It’s an annual opportunity to become the architect of positive change in your life. As we gear up for 2025, remember that every small step forward contributes to your personal success story.

“Aim to make 2025 filled with achievement and breakthrough moments in all your endeavors. Time to roll out your best year yet!”

Happy New Year!

AM International remains steadfast in its commitment to a sustainable future.

“We believe that businesses must be a force for good. Our responsible practices, built on a foundation of transparency and accountability, ensure that our actions create a lasting, positive impact for all our stakeholders.”

– Mr Ashwin Muthiah, Founder-Chairman, AM International
