Beyond the Workplace: Celebrating the Families Behind Our People

Acompany’s quarterly reports mention revenue, margins, and growth. Annual reviews talk about milestones, capacity, and market position. But they rarely mention the one thing that allows every employee to walk through the door each morning and do their best: the family at home that makes it possible.

Every late night that an employee works is a late night for the family. Every relocation, every demanding project, every difficult quarter has a household behind it that adjusts, supports, and stays steady so that one person can show up fully at work.

A Small Thank You

Beyond the Workplace

At AM International, we have always believed that our employees’ families are an extension of our own organisational family.

It was in this spirit that the SPIC Multi Activity Club (SMAC) organised a summer camp for the children of employees at SPIC, Greenstar Fertilizers Limited, and Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (TFL). The event germinated from a simple idea: can we use the summer break to give something back to the families who give so much throughout the year?

During the summer camp, forty-five children, aged five and above, came together over twelve days in Tuticorin. They tried their hand at archery, boxing, chess, gymnastics, and yoga, many of them for the first time. Professional coaches guided them through each discipline. The idea was to help the young minds discover sporting activities, find what excites them, learn to persist, and experience the pride of getting a little better each day.

Above all, when a child comes home excited about a new sport they tried at their parent’s workplace, something special happens. The organisation stops being an abstract place where their parent goes every morning. It becomes familiar, welcoming, and part of the child’s own family story.

Twelve Days, A Few Lasting Lessons

Beyond the Workplace

The camp concluded with a Sports Competition and a Convocation Ceremony where medals and certificates were awarded to the children. But more than the medals on their necks, what stayed with them was the feeling of confidence. The quiet ones found their voices. The restless ones found their focus. Children who had never held a bow were standing tall and aiming steadily. Others who had never touched a chess piece were thinking two moves ahead.

Without knowing it, the children reminded the parents and organisers watching from the sidelines of something simple: that patience works, that showing up matters, and that people grow fastest when they feel safe enough to try and fail. All it needs is the right environment and a little encouragement. That is what we strive to create for our employees, every day.

From Employee Engagement to Family Engagement

We speak often about employee engagement. Perhaps the more meaningful conversation is about family engagement, where we create an environment where employees know that we recognise and value the people who stand beside them. The SMAC summer camp is just one expression of that belief.

When our Founder and Chairman, Mr. Ashwin Muthiah, reflects on the group’s journey, he speaks of how the development of the SPIC Nagar township alongside SPIC’s production facilities was rooted in a recognition that a thriving workforce and happy families are essential for long-term sustainability.

To The Families Behind Our People

We congratulate every young participant whose energy and smiles made this programme memorable. And we thank the families of our employees, not just for these twelve days, but for every day of support that makes our work possible.

When families feel valued, employees feel whole. And when employees feel whole, organisations grow stronger.
